This morning's trivia on KOIT:

Q: San Luis Obispo is home to the USA's first.....

A: Motel.

The "Motel Inn" was built by Arthur Heineman at a cost of 80 grand in 1925, and he charged $1.25  for people to stay overnight.

Heineman built it right off Highway 101, so people traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco had a place to stop right in the middle of their trip. His idea was to come with an accommodation that fell somewhere between an expensive hotel,  and a rugged campsite. And it worked!

But sadly the Motel Inn closed in 1991.

Your letter carrier will be extra busy tomorrow because it's the 18th annual Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Drive.

Leave canned goods out by your mailbox before your mail delivery, and your letter carrier will pick them up. Last year, the 17th annual drive picked up over 900,000 pounds of food, helping lots of hungry people here in the Bay Area.

You can't go wrong with canned tuna, peanut butter, hearty soups, dried or canned beans, canned chicken, enriched rice, rains or pasta.....you get the idea.

Need is up about 46 percent in the Bay Area this year, and about 43 percent of the needy are kids, so leave what you "can" and have a great weekend, and Mother's Day!
