Q: What year did Congress pass legislation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day?
A: 1914. Just for laughs, I looked up the year Hallmark set up shop. You guessed it...1915.
Saturday is Stamp Out Hunger Day. It's the day that mail carriers collect canned goods along their routes. Campbell's and The National Association of Letter Carriers put this on. All you have to do is leave a sturdy bag of non-perishable food next your mailbox, and your mailperson will pick it up. And I hope he/she has a strong back.
Speaking of stamps, the cost of mailing a letter goes up two cents on Monday. It'll go up to 44 cents, which I think is STILL quite a bargain!
To help celebrate Mother's Day a bunch of Bay Area museums are offering free admission on Sunday...over a dozen in San Francisco alone. Here's a complete list of the participating museums. This would be the perfect chance to try the Muni Culture Bus. It's great way to around to dozens of museums in San Francisco. You'll find Culture Bus info here.
