Q: What year did the TV movie "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" hit the airwaves?
A: It was in 1981. It was originally supposed to be "The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on Gilligan's Island". No lie. This stuff writes itself.
The reason I was gone a few days last week was the whole family went on SoCal college tours. Our son, Andrew, is a high school junior this year and we managed, with my wife's superb planning, four schools in four days..University of San Diego, UC's San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Irvine. Loved Irvine. I mean what's not to love about a school with the anteater as the mascot? Zot zot. We even squeezed in a day at Disneyland. We flew into San Diego, rented a car, and flew back to SFO from LAX. I coughed up the dough to rent a GPS thingy to guide us from stop to stop. I'll never do that again. Absolutely worthless. The thing would work for a few minutes, then freeze up. The only time it DID work was when we passed it back to Andrew in the back seat for him to hold over his head. Poor kid. We got our money back though. Good thing I hit up AAA for all the maps we needed before we left. Kim did a much better job of navigating.
If you were downwind of the Cow Palace this past weekend, there was no mistaking that, um, aroma. The International Cannabis and Hemp Expo was taking place. The first trade show in the US of A to allow on-site pot smoking, according to this morning's Chronicle. Now, make no mistake. I'm all for the medicinal use of marijuana. But it's hard for me to believe that all 15 thousand attendees were there under doctor's orders. There wasn't an Oreo or Dorito to be found for miles around. Just kidding. I think.
