This month's featured organization is:

The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA

In the TAILS Program, a partnership between the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA and the San Mateo County Sheriffs Office, dogs with limited adoption potential are paired with inmates in a minimum-security facility for training and socialization. A PHS/SPCA trainer conducts a weekly class for the dogs and their inmate handlers; outside of class, inmates are responsible for their dogs’ class homework, exercise, socialization, clean-up and overall well-being. Since the TAILS partnership began in July 2009, more than 50 dogs have graduated. TAILS gives dogs with limited adoption potential constant care and attention from inmates and provides inmates an avenue for developing skills and making their time more meaningful.
TAILS stands for Transitioning Animals Into Loving Situations.

This week's adoptable pets:

Jamar

Jamar, a 1-yr-old male Miniature Pinscher, was another TAILS grad. He was stressed in a smaller dorm room at PHS/SPCA, which made him an ideal TAILS candidate. Handsome fellow with a curly tail that adds to his good looks and “puppy” personality. Treat-motivated!  Jamar will do best in an active home, but probably not one with toddlers, since he can be jumpy. If there are other dogs in the home, we’ll set-up an introduction at PHS/SPCA.

Strikingly handsome Atlas is a four-year-old tomcat. Although he seems the strong, silent type, this boy longs for a quiet, loving home of his own. (ID#08293.) Finn, a 5yr old Russian Blue, will steal your heart with his boyish good looks. A faithful Forty Niner fan, he’s looking for his match.Finn, a 5yr old Russian Blue, will steal your heart with his boyish good looks. A faithful Forty Niner fan, he’s looking for his match.

Rocco

Rocco, a 6-year-old male Pit Bull, is one of four dogs who graduated last Friday from a special program which pairs Peninsula Humane Society shelter dogs with inmates in a minimum-security facility for eight-weeks of focused training and socialization. Despite Rocco’s strength, he has a gentle/cuddly side.
